BJP-led NDA candidate Draupadi Murmo was on Thursday elected the 15th President of India. He is the first tribal chief after Ram Nath Kovind to hold the highest constitutional post. Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha fought against Murmu.
At Rayangpur the citizens of Murmu organized 20,000 ludos for public distribution and set up warehouses where they were convinced of the victory of the “son of Odisha” and prepared for the celebration. Draupadi Murmu is a tribal figure from Raranjpur in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. Draupadi Murmu is a successful leader who has entered the politics of Odisha with hard work. By winning the 2022 presidential election, Draupadi became the first Mormon ethnic woman and the second woman to hold a high office.

Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in a Santali clan in Biranchi Narayan Tudu in Ubarbeda village of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. His grandparents were village administrators under the Panchayati Raj regime.
Draupadi Murmu married Shyam Charan Murmu, a banker who died in 2014. The couple had two sons, both of whom passed away, and a daughter Itishri Murmu.
Draupadi Murmu Teaching Career : Draupadi Murmu started out as a school teacher before entering regional politics. Murmu has worked as Junior Assistant Professor in Sri Aurobindo Institute of Integrated Education and Research, Rayangpur and Irrigation Management, Government of Odisha.
Draupadi Murmu Political Career:
Draupadi Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1997 and was elected the Chancellor of Rayangpur Nagar Panchayat. In 2000, he became the head of Rirangpur Nagar Panchayat and also served as the National Vice President of BJH’s Scheduled Tribes Morcha.

Draupadi Murmu: NDA’s Presidential candidate 2022
In June 2022, the BJP nominated Draupadi Murmo as the National Democratic Alliance’s candidate for the 2022 elections.
The major opposition parties that Draupadi Murmu supported during her visit to the northeastern states were Orissa BJD, Jharkhand JMM Party, Maharashtra Shiv Sena, Uttar Pradesh BSP, and Karnataka JDS.
