Satish Kaushik started his career as an assistant director with Shekhar Kapur in the film Masoom. Along with being an assistant director in this film, he also acted in this film. He made his directorial debut with Anil Kapoor and Sridevi Roop Ki Rani Choro Ke Raja, but the film did not do well. He then directed the film Prem, which was the debut film of film actress Tabu.
